Bronx New Deal - Photo #192 - Triborough Bridge

The construction of Triborough Bridge went hand in hand with making Randall's Island a place where children could play in its shadow. (Actually, the area pictured here was Ward's Island when the bridge was built, but later the channel separating it from Randall's Island, Little Hell's Gate, was filled in creating one big Randall's island at some point in the 1960s. Ward's Island was connected to East 103rd Street in Manhattan it 1951 by Ward's Island Bridge, a lift bridge opened for pedestrians only.)
