In Spring 2015, after a check by arborists, 71 sick or dead trees in Williamsbridge Oval Park were marked for removal and eventual replacement, at a cost of some $46,150. This is part of a citywide project launched in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, that damaged about 10,000 trees in the the City's 1700 parks. In this series of photos, a dead tree is cut up in place, rather than toppling the whole tree like a lumberjack would do, which is impractical in a public park. In this picture you can see the branches that have been cut off piling up at the base of tree.
