This is an abandoned auto body shop in the little wedge formed by Van
Cortlandt Avenue East and St. George's Crescent, July 2015. Demolished
a year or two later to make way for a
high-rise
residential building, supposedly including about 120
“low-income” units, where low income is no doubt defined to be
way more than anybody who lives around here can afford (median household
income is about $25,000), and I don't even
want to think about what the other units will cost. I kind of like this
building, it has that Streamlined Moderne look that harmonizes with the
1930s
apartment house just up the hill.
